NFT trait roles in Discord, read from the collection metadata.
Trait roles let a collection carry its structure into Discord: factions, backgrounds, rarities, or any attribute in the metadata. NXT reads each token's metadata from the contract and grants roles to holders whose tokens match.
Traits live off chain
Traits usually live in JSON metadata behind a tokenURI, often on IPFS or Arweave. Reading them reliably means resolving gateways, caching results, and handling the times a gateway is slow. A trait role that disappears whenever a gateway hiccups creates support tickets instead of community.
Projects also want flexibility: sometimes any matching trait should qualify, sometimes a token must match a full set.
How NXT grants trait roles
A Trait rule points at an ERC-721 contract on any EVM chain. NXT locates metadata through tokenURI, resolves ipfs:// and ar:// links, and caches what it reads. You choose trait types and values, decide whether a token must match any of them or all of them, and optionally require a minimum number of matching tokens.
If metadata is temporarily unavailable, the check is treated as unknown and no role is removed. NFT transfers on the contract trigger re-checks within seconds, so a trait role moves with the token when it sells.
For factions, create one rule per trait value and give each role its own channels.

Pick the collection
Add a Trait rule and choose the network and ERC-721 contract. NXT fetches the metadata.
Choose traits
Select trait types and values, then choose Any or All and an optional minimum count.
Map channels
Give each trait role access to its own channels for factions, tribes, or rarity tiers.

Traits come from the contract's own tokenURI, so roles reflect what the collection publishes.

Match a token with any one chosen trait, or require every chosen trait on the same token.

Require several matching tokens, for example three with the same background.

Use a Combo rule to pair a trait condition with an ERC-20 or native balance condition.
